As a college-preparatory, PreK-12 school, The Out-of-Door Academy prides itself on its academic standards, the extracurricular opportunities provided to its students and the lasting relationships that are built among all members of the community, from students to teachers to parents.
The mission of the Admissions Office is to create classes of talented, eager and responsible citizens, whose skills and interests will enhance and strengthen the school community. We value students who will contribute in a variety of areas, including athletics, the arts, leadership and service.
Tour and Visit
Prospective students and families are invited to visit and experience the Out-of-Door campuses, students, instructional staff, and curriculum in action. Please call the Admission Office to schedule an individual family tour. Open Houses and area meetings are also scheduled throughout the year. A schedule of these and other admission events and timelines is available in the admission section of our website, or by calling the Admission Office.
Application for Admission and Application Fee
Please complete and return the Application for Admission along with the $100.00 application fee. Though optional, including a recent photograph of the applicant helps the admission team better remember your child as an individual throughout the admission process. The Application Process Checklist details the specific steps and forms that need to be completed for each grade level. Please note that all forms in the application packet do not apply for all ages.
Testing and Classroom Visitation/Interview
Applicants for Grades Pre-K - 6: After submitting the completed application materials, you will be contacted to arrange a date to have your child tested and to arrange for a classroom visitation. Because admission to Out-of-Door Academy's pre-kindergarten, transitional kindergarten and kindergarten programs is based primarily on individual, developmental readiness, the School recommends applicants for pre-kindergarten turn four (4) and applicants for kindergarten turn five (5) by September 1 of their entry year.
Applicants for Grades 7 - 12 testing: After submitting the completed application materials, please register to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). This test is offered in November, December, January, February, March and April at The Out-of-Door Academy and other independent schools across the country. The schedule and registration information for the SSAT are available online at http://www.ssat.org/. SSAT registration materials are also available from the Out-of-Door Admissions Office. If the applicant has recently taken the ISEE, ERB, SAT, or PSAT, these test results may be submitted in place of the SSAT scores. You will also be contacted by the Admissions Office to arrange for a full or half-day visit and interview.
Acceptance and Enrollment
Application files are reviewed by the Admission Committee once they have been completed. It is the responsibility of the applicant's parent(s)/guardian(s) to ensure that all materials have been received by The Out-of-Door Academy. Upon acceptance, students will be sent an acceptance packet and an Enrollment Agreement. The Enrollment Agreement and a deposit of $1,000 ($100 for financial assistance applicants) are due within three weeks of receipt of the Enrollment Agreement. This deposit will reserve your child's space in The Out-of-Door Academy and will be applied toward tuition.
