Upon arrival, attendees were enthralled by the transformation of the Uihlein Campus in Lakewood Ranch, which was illuminated with thousands of lights. From there, guests made their way into the Quad, which was transformed with lights and cafe' style seating. Supporters traversed towards the Wood Family Amphitheater where they danced to the music from a fantastic live band, None Other, and generously bid during the live auction and paddle raise. Guests were treated to some of the finest cuisine in Sarasota from our generous restaurant venders of the event underneath the stars on a gorgeous evening.

Thank you so much to everyone who helped make this year's Banyan Bash such a success. Together we raised over $350,000 in support of the people and programs that make Out-of-Door such an exceptional school.

Banyan Bash FAQs

Why should I attend?
By attending, you are supporting The Out-of-Door Academy and our students, faculty and staff. Funds raised by the Banyan Bash are put towards existing programs such as faculty professional development, technology, athletics, the arts and facility enhancements. Additionally, proceeds from the evening help grow our endowment and help to support the tuition assistance program.

How will this event be different from past events?
The Banyan Bash is designed to be an opportunity to enjoy mingling and catching up with Out-of Door friends and families while at the same time raising funds for our school. The evening will be situated on our the Uihlein Campus in Lakewood Ranch taking advantage of the Quad and the Wood Family Amphitheater. There will be high top tables situated amongst food stations provided by some of Sarasota's top restaurants. We will feature an exclusive live auction featuring incredible items. For those of you who like to dance, we will have a live band!

What is the suggested attire?
Leave the black tie and ball gown at home this year. Suggested attire: Ladies - Cocktail dresses/pant suits and shoes suitable for our Uihlein Campus in Lakewood Ranch (grass). Gentlemen - Dress slacks, jackets, no tie required. Please, no denim.

Sounds like fun! How can I help?
Sponsorship is a great way to advertise your business, while providing the necessary underwriting needed for the event. We also would like for you to consider donating a case of wine, your second home or extra airline miles to top off one of our auction items. If you are interested in supporting the event or have more questions, please contact Julie Fineberg at jfineberg@oda.edu. Look for your Banyan Bash invitation in the mailbox in February.

History

Since 1979, The Out-of-Door Academy's major event fundraiser is the annual auction. Banyan Ball, formally known as Extravaganza, is the second largest fundraiser in Sarasota and is attended by people throughout the community. Proceeds from this event enrich existing programs such as faculty development, technology, athletics, the arts and facility enhancements. In addition, money raised from the Banyan Ball also helps support the tuition assistance program and adds to our endowment. Each year, approximately 20-25 percent of the student body receives some amount of need-based tuition assistance. This program allows academically qualified students to attend The Out-of-Door Academy regardless of their families' financial status and helps maintain socio-economic diversity, a key aspect of the school's mission. Out-of-Door believes that celebrating each student's unique differences enables the school to enrich the academic experiences of the entire student body.

This year, thirty-four years later, the annual auction is going to the  Uihlein campus in Lakewood Ranch on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Coined "Banyan Bash" for this coming year, guests will leave their black ties at home and spend a fabulous evening with friends and family. ODA will be transforming the Lakewood Ranch campus with thousands of lights while partnering with local vendors to provide a taste of Sarasota cuisine for all attendees. With an exciting limited live auction and premium silent auction section, the school is anticipating a fun night for all guests.
