Arts Guild

The Arts Guild salutes The Out-of-Door Academy as it embarks on its 85th year of outstanding academics and its peerless commitment to the arts. At the forefront in supporting the arts program is the ODA Arts Guild. Through the generous support of its members, the visual and performing arts departments were able to purchase the following items in the 2008-2009 school year:

French horn, guitar, electric piano, grand piano cover, two piano dollies, music stand racks, instrument storage racks, pottery equipment, document scanner, printing press, graphic display system, mobile book cases, sponsorships for the ODA on Broadway concert and Out-of-Door's first school-wide Arts Day, guest artists Dave Moran and Laura Polen, and the annual Headmaster Award for Art.

The 2009-2010 year promises unprecedented commitment to the arts. We have cut the ribbon on the new Arts Center and launched exciting new arts programs. The Arts Guild community will once again be counted on to provide the support these programs deserve.

We hope, through thoughtful consideration, that you will become a member of the Arts Guild.

Sincerely,
Ginny Hitchcock, Arts Guild Co-Chair
Suzanne Monroe, Arts Guild Co-Chair
Dennis Chapman, Director of Advancement

Since 1924, the mission of The Out-of-Door Academy has encompassed academics, arts, and athletics, and thus the school's arts programs have always been an integral part of the curriculum. The arts curriculum incorporates drama, music, and the visual arts. The sequential, cumulative design of each program ensures that students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade develop a deep understanding of the arts and their importance. Since the opening of the Upper School in 1997, Out-of-Door's student-artists have built an impressive record of success and recognition in the local arts community.

In 2004, a small but passionate group of parents organized the Arts Guild to formalize, broaden, and strengthen the parent volunteer base for the arts and to raise funds for the "extras" that contribute to the excellence of the school's arts programs. The Arts Guild is funded by memberships, donations, and the paddle raise at the Auction, the school's largest fund-raiser. In addition, the program brings local artists to the school in order to share their craft with Out-of-Door students.

Five levels of membership are available, and all members receive recognition in the programs at all art displays, musical performances, and dramatic productions, as well as an Arts Guild bumper sticker. Masterpiece members receive two season passes to all arts events during the school year.
