On March 9th, students in Mr. Chris Bernsen's Investing in the Global Economy and students in Out-of-Door's Investment Club, advised by faculty member, Mr. Ken Sommers, attended a local financial seminar hosted by Hirtle Callaghan and Co., Out-of-Door's investment firm, at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota.
On Friday, March 17th, students in Ms. Frye's class had a one-page research paper due on either a mathematician or math topic. After turning in their papers, the juniors and seniors were required to quickly pop-up, when called, and state one interesting fact from their research.
After placing first in The Out-of-Door Academy's Middle School Geography Bee, eighth grade student Taylor Shaklik has qualified to compete in the state level competition of the National Geographic Bee.
Students in all grade levels at The Out-of-Door Academy have participated and excelled in local. state, and national academic competitions including math, science, STEM, writing, geography, Latin, and Mandarin,. Academic competitions are a great way for talented students to deepen their knowledge about their favorite subjects while challenging themselves to learn how to research, prepare, create and perform. These competitions bring students together who share interests and abilities, and the atmosphere buzzes with the excitement of new ideas and new friendships. They are also designed to inspire students by acknowledging their academic passions, talent and hard work.
During the SRQ Hackathon, from October 14-16, 2016, Out-of-Door students along with faculty, Mr. Ryan Kinser attended the event at New College of Florida's Sudakoff Conference Center.
