The Taylor Emmons School of Business was established by Mike and Katie Emmons to honor their son Taylor and to provide the students at ODA with the practical benefit of learning fundamental business and financial literacy principles. The Emmons family strives to inspire students to consider a future path in the world of business.

  • Michael G. Emmons

    Co-Owner, American Land & Lakes
    B.S., Rollins College
    M.B.A., University of Miami
     
    Michael Emmons has over 10 years of experience in rural, recreational, and residential Real Estate. He has overseen acquisition and project management for more than 75 projects totaling more than $200 million in acquisitions and $500 million in revenue. He studied economics at Rollins College and international business at the University of Miami Business School. Mr. Emmons has extensive background in Real Estate Finance and Private Equity Funding. 
     
    He enjoys spending time with his fiancée Julianna and children: Gia, Taylor, Leo, Emilia, and Everly.
     
  • Mara Falahee

    Chief Executive Officer, Sun Protection of Florida
    B.A., Scripps College
    M.S., Claremont McKenna College

    After graduating from The Out-of Door Academy in 2012, Mara Falahee pursued a B.A. in Economics & Accounting from Scripps College. During her time at Scripps, she had the fortunate opportunity to be a four-year starter and two year captain on the Women's NCAA Basketball Team. Upon graduation in 2016, she moved to Austin, TX, to work in real estate development with National Land Partners where she honed the art of selling. In 2018, Ms. Falahee returned to school for her master's in Finance from Claremont McKenna College. After graduation, she returned to her roots in Sarasota, where she currently serves as the CEO for Sun Protection of Florida – a leading retailer of motorized screens and awnings. 

    Her passion for sports, community, and business has fueled her throughout her life and she hopes to find more ways to give back to the places that built her.
  • John Humphrey

    Retired Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
    B.S., Purdue University
    M.B.A., University of Michigan

    John Humphrey retired from Roper Technologies in 2017. Roper designs and develops software and engineered products and solutions for healthcare, transportation, food, energy, water, education, and other niche markets worldwide. At Roper, he served from 2011 to 2017, as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and from 2006 to 2011, as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Roper, Mr. Humphrey spent 12 years with Honeywell International, Inc. and its predecessor, AlliedSignal, in a variety of financial leadership positions. Mr. Humphrey's earlier career included six years with Detroit Diesel Corporation, a manufacturer of heavy-duty engines, in a variety of engineering and manufacturing management positions. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Ingersoll-Rand, Inc., EnPro Industries, Inc. and 0-1 Glass, Inc. Mr. Humphrey received a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue University and an M.B.A. from the University of Michigan.
  • Julie Lawson

    Consultant and Entrepreneur
    B.S., The Ohio State University 

    Julie Lawson is a passionate, charismatic, and intelligent sales executive with a track record for taking on challenging roles and exceeding assigned goals. She has been with IBM for 30 years and started her career as an intern in Columbus, OH, while attending The Ohio State University. She possesses exceptional technical acumen and natural leadership skills and has held several executive management roles in Enterprise Software sales for IBM North America. Prior to those positions, she had a successful sales career in Columbus and the Southeast.
    Always knowing she was an entrepreneur, Ms. Lawson left IBM in 1998 to start her own consulting business specializing in sales force automation and customer relationship management. Also, while outside IBM she was VP of Sales and Marketing for a regional IBM Business Partner.

    Julie still calls Columbus home but lives in Lakewood Ranch with her husband Brian. She is a huge Ohio State Buckeye fan and enjoys playing golf.
  • Tom Meyers, CFP

    Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch
    B.S., University of Florida
    Certified Financial Planner

    Tom Meyers graduated from University of Florida with a degree in Business Finance. After college, he served four years in the Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of Captain. Mr. Meyers then joined Merrill Lynch as a Financial Advisor and has been there for 23 years. He has been recognized within Merrill Lynch as one of their top advisors and has been named to the Forbes list of "Best in State Wealth Management Advisors." He is series 7 and 66 licensed and holds the Certified Financial Planning, CFP, designation.

    Tom and his wife Susan live in Lakewood Ranch and have two children who attend ODA, Jack '24 and Brooke '27.
  • Doug Swan

    Head of NorthAm SAP Sales, Google Cloud
    B.S., Worcester Polytechnic Institute

    Doug Swan is a technology executive and accomplished transformation leader with over 33 years of experience in enterprise applications, cloud technology, and large scale transformation programs. He currently leads Google's North American Sales for enterprise application and data analytics business within Google Cloud. Prior to his time at Google, Mr. Swan spent close to 24 years at SAP working with some of the world's largest, most complex, and strategic customers in various sales and customer facing roles in various industries, including manufacturing, retail, aerospace, financial services, CPG, healthcare, and government. Key customers include United Technologies, Raytheon, US Navy, CVS, GE, Bank of America, AIG, and New York Life.

    He received a bachelor’s degree in both Management and Industrial Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA.

    Doug currently resides in Lakewood Ranch with his wife Julie and sons Erik, Greg, and Michael.
  • Gino Taliento

    Co-Owner, American Land & Lakes
    B.S., Coastal Carolina University

    Gino started his career with National Land Partners, one of the Nation's largest recreational land developers, in 2005 and quickly rose through the ranks achieving Top Salesperson honors in 2006 and Sales Manager of the year honors in 2010. From 2011 to 2017 he worked in various regional and national roles throughout the company. In 2017, he co-founded American Land & Lakes in Lakewood Ranch, Florida. Since inception, the company has experience exponential year-over-year growth and currently has offices in Lakewood Ranch, Jacksonville, Dallas, and Austin with plans for two more regional offices in 2022. He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration-Marketing from Coastal Carolina University­ in Conway, SC.

    Gino currently resides in Lakewood Ranch, FL, with wife Sunshine and two boys, Rory and Gino.
  • David J. Tomasso, M.B.A.

    M.B.A., Columbia University

    David Tomasso has 30+ years of biotechnology and pharmaceutical experience in business development, financial evaluation and analysis, sales, marketing, and manufacturing. His previous experience includes work with Merck, King, Halozyme, Ratio, and Genprex. In 2015, he co-founded an investment banking firm to advise early-stage biotechnology companies seeking to raise capital or license development programs. David has a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Rutgers University, a Masters in Manufacturing Systems Engineering from Lehigh University, and a M.B.A. from Columbia University.
