This three-week, one credit course (condensed from our two-semester course) focuses on basic concepts of physics principles as they apply to everyday life. These concepts are developed through reading assignments, lectures, demonstrations, videos, and labs through the Pasco Physics Academy. Math skills at the Algebra II level are recommended for basic and straightforward problem solving. If you have not completed Algebra II, please consult with the instructor if you would like to take the course. A “concepts-before calculations'' approach is taken in this course. Topics include Newtonian mechanics and dynamics, gravitation, energy, sound, light, and electricity. The schedule will be blended–we will work online one day followed by in-person labs on the following day. A maximum of 3 labs will be set up each lab day and students will be assigned groups to rotate through the setups. All labs and reports will be completed during that time. Students will work through the modules in the course and will need to fully complete one before moving on to the next. Each module will begin with an investigation (mini lab, demonstration) that asks basic questions regarding the concepts. Afterwards, students will be assigned readings followed by lessons that will be taught (some via Zoom and others in person) to further help understand the concepts in the investigation. Within each module there will be mini assessments. If a student is having any difficulty, the instructor will Zoom with the student to work through the concepts. Mandatory attendance is required for all classes to receive credit for the course.
Space is limited, early registration is required! This class fills very quickly and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration must be done online.
