ODA Swimmers Have Top Finishes at Regionals

Out-of-Door finishes as the top area boys team at Regionals.
Bayshore High’s Ryley Ober, a two-time HTPreps Girls Swimmer of the Year, won both of her events at the Class 2A-Region 3 meet, qualifying for Saturday’s Class 2A state championship meet in Stuart.

Ober won the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events while Bruins teammate Andrew Kalaman placed second in the 500-yard freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle.

In girls’ team scoring Southeast led area schools finishing 10th. Bayshore was 17th and Booker 22nd.

In the boys’ competition Bayshore finished ninth, Southeast 11th and Booker 21st.

Also, Bradenton Christian junior Anna Freed won two events — the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley — at the Class 1A-Region 3 meet this past Saturday in St. Petersburg.

Sarasota Christian junior Nora Murphy finished second in the 200 individual medley and placed fifth in the 500 freestyle.

Bradenton Christian finished eighth topping area schools while Saint Stephen’s was 15th, ODA 17th and Sarasota Christian 21st.

In the boys’ meet Out of Door Academy’s Sarsen Whatmore who won the 200 freestyle event and placed fourth in the 500 free. Also, ODA teammate Zachary Szmania won the 200 individual medley and placed fifth the 100 breaststroke event.

The top area boys school was ODA, which placed seventh. Saint Stephen’s was eighth, Sarasota Christian 10th, Cardinal Mooney 12th and Bradenton Christian 21st.
