Winter Band Concert Has Audience's Toes Tapping

The Black Box Theater was filled with lively music during the Middle and Upper School Winter Band Concert on Wednesday evening.
The band members, directed by Mr. Patrick Miller, played a variety of songs ranging from well-known holiday pieces and marches to childhood favorites. The Jazz Band warmed up the audience with their rhythmic tunes, including “The Memphis Blues” and “Apple Honey.” The Middle School Band then performed a selection of music including a rousing rendition of John Philip Sousa’s “The Thunderer,” the holiday classic “Little Drummer Boy” on the steel drums, and the nostalgic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” The Upper School Band took the floor and opened with the upbeat “Volcano” by Jimmy Buffet featuring the steel drums. The crowd was impressed by the brass-heavy “The Earl of Oxford’s March,” as well as by the complicated “A Longford Legend.” The Upper and Middle School groups joined together for their final number, “Chant Rituals,” earning appreciative applause from the audience at the conclusion of the festive performance.
