ODA Spanish Language Teachers Participate in National Language Teaching Expo

Two ODA faculty members explored innovative techniques to integrate into world language classes through their participation in the ACTFL Annual Convention and World Languages Expo in Washington, D.C.
Spanish teachers Mrs. Yadira Kirschner and Mrs. Margarita Cabán-Dooley recently attended the 2019 American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) Annual Convention and World Languages Expo in Washington, D.C. The globally recognized convention is widely considered to be the most comprehensive professional development symposium for language teachers in the United States and abroad. They participated in educational sessions and contributed to hands-on learning environments, amassing tangible resources and ready-to-use techniques to help build content knowledge and incorporate new learning strategies in their classrooms.
Mrs. Kirscher and Mrs. Cabán-Dooley exchanged numerous teaching strategies with other professionals in the field in an effort to remain on top of the latest research and the most current trends in language education today. A particular highlight was the opportunity to exchange programming strategies with the current president of the Greater Washington Chapter of the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages, Luis Deocares and past president Victor Vazquez Vincent.

The event featured sessions with high-profile language advocates, educators, and researchers. The duo returned with loads of valuable information in order to create a new and improved learning experience that will help their students succeed in the classroom.
