Out-of-Door’s traditional event goes virtual. Click here to watch the ceremony.
For nearly 20 years, ODA’s student body, faculty, and staff honor the senior class during Convocation, an all-school event held every fall. The cherished tradition exudes a sense of unity as the entire student body comes together to honor our senior students as they begin their final year at ODA.
In addition to the ceremony, the entire Out-of-Door community participates in a Service activity–collecting much-need pantry items for a local food bank. This year, students, faculty, and staff collected canned food items for the Food Bank of Manatee’s Food4Families Program—a program started in response to much-needed COVID-19 Emergency Relief.
To fall in lockstep with ODA’s Community Guidelines and safety protocols, the traditional Convocation ceremony had a different look, and was delivered as a livestream event into classrooms at both campuses.
Undeterred by the change of delivery system, the excited Class of 2021 entered the Thunderdome on Friday morning eager to watch the ceremony surrounded by their fellow seniors. The assembled students were inspired by the heartfelt speeches and gifts presented to their class from the three divisions and faculty. As the conclusion of the event, Head of School Mr. David Mahler addressed the seniors, speaking of the importance of their role as leaders of the student body, encouraging them to not only know, but live Out-of-Door’s core values: Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Responsibility.
