The Out-of-Door Academy announced Jon Haskins will coach the Thunder football team.

Here is the press release sent by the school:

Coach Haskins has an impressive resume as both player and coach. The four-year starter at Stanford University proceeded to the NFL as the seventh-round pick by the San Diego Chargers in 1998. His three-year professional career included stints with San Diego, the Philadelphia Eagles, and one-year in the XFL.

Haskins served as Director of Player Development for head coach Jim Harbaugh at Stanford. As a graduate assistant coach at Duke, he worked with tight ends and offensive line. With a bachelor's degree from Stanford and master's level coursework at Duke, as well as experience overseeing player personnel and recruiting for institutions including the University of Florida, University of South Florida, and the University of Nevada.

Haskins brings a wealth of skills and knowledge of the game to this position. “We are excited to have a coach of Haskins' caliber and character to lead our program into the future,” said Athletic Director Kippie Crouch. “I am confident that he will have an immediate positive impact on our program and he will instill our school’s core values in every one of his players. Everything I know about Coach Haskins indicates that he is not only a great coach but a great teacher and mentor. I look forward to the opportunity to work with him and have him lead our student-athletes on and off the field.”

Coach Haskins grew up in Sarasota and played for John Sprague at Riverview High School. He and his family are excited to return to their home state.

“ODA is the premier private school destination on the Suncoast and provides an incredible academic experience for those who matriculate through the rigors and depth of its Pre-K-12 curriculum. Similarly, my goal as the Head Football Coach at ODA is to provide an experience of excellence for every student/athlete who wants to challenge themselves on the football field and represent the Thunder,” Haskins said. “Having grown up steps away from ODA’s original campus on Siesta Key, I’m excited to return to Sarasota and bring the experience I gained from attending and coaching at top tier colleges and universities to The Out-of-Door Academy community.”
