The Out-of-Door Academy Arts Alliance
Since 1924, the mission of The Out-of-Door Academy has encompassed academics, arts, and athletics, and thus the school's arts programs have always been an integral part of the curriculum. The arts curriculum incorporates drama, music, and the visual arts. The sequential, cumulative design of each program ensures that students from Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade develop a deep understanding of the arts and their importance. Since the opening of the Upper School in 1997, Out-of-Door's student-artists have built an impressive record of success and recognition in the local arts community.
In 2004, a small but passionate group of parents organized the Arts Guild to formalize, broaden, and strengthen the parent volunteer base for the arts and to raise funds for the "extras" that contribute to the excellence of the school's arts programs. In 2014, the group was renamed to The Out-of-Door Academy Arts Alliance.
The Out-of-Door Academy Arts Alliance is funded by memberships and donations. In addition, the program brings local artists to the school in order to share their craft with Out-of-Door students.
Generous financial support of the Arts Alliance provided amazing opportunities for our students during the 2014-2015 school year. Highlights included:
Commissioning of Florida Studio Theatre to assist with writing and producing our 90th Anniversary History Play at the lower school.
Bringing the distinguished FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training to the full high school student body to perform their adaptation of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Purchasing a 3D display case that will professionally showcase student art in our Arts Center at the Uihlein Campus at Lakewood Ranch.
You can join us in supporting the arts! Five levels of membership are available, and all members receive recognition in the programs at all art displays, musical performances, and dramatic productions.
