Music

Students can pursue their musical aspirations at The Out-of-Door Academy. From elementary through high school, students are free to explore various opportunities.
Our youngest students explore music through singing, recorders, orff instruments, and suzuki strings. Middle and Upper School students have an abundance of opportunities for performance, including jazz band, a capella, chorus, orchestra, band, pit-orchestra, keyboard, rock band, and steel drum ensemble. Musicians flourish as students learn both the classics and current hits. Advanced student-musicians have opportunities to compose, arrange, and conduct in regular performances for the community.

  • Lower School

The Lower School Performing Arts curriculum helps students learn foundational techniques and concepts which will shape their artistic future. Our dedicated instructors are professional musicians who have a zest for the arts and inspire a passion for music in our youngest student-artists. Students perform regularly for local audiences as well as the school community.
  • Middle School

The Middle School Performing Arts program expands the foundational knowledge acquired in the Lower School. Sixth grade students take classes in band, chorus, or string ensemble to ensure every student has exposure to vocal and instrumental art opportunities they can pursue throughout their time at Out-of-Door. Beyond the classroom, Middle School students may participate in a number of after-school opportunities, including plays and Middle School Jazz Ensemble. Advanced musicians may also participate in Upper School Arts events and performances.
  • Upper School

Students in the Upper School take classes in music and visual art as part of their required coursework and can choose electives to pursue advanced training. Additional opportunities to participate outside the classroom include Jazz Ensemble, Orchestra, and Chorus. The music program at The Out-of-Door Academy fosters artistic excellence, interdisciplinary learning, socially engaged performance, and the spirit of collaboration.
