ODA Alumni Share College Insight with Senior Class

A panel of twelve alumni visited campus this week to share insights about their college experience with seniors. Seniors asked questions about adjusting socially at a larger school, how difficult the coursework is, and the ins and outs of dorm life. The panelists shared stories about roommates, classes and balancing social life with school work, but they spent most of their time offering advice.

When discussing the challenges of living with strangers, alumni advised our seniors to “be open, be clean, and don’t avoid conflict.” They gave pointers on how to start things off right by being a good roommate.

In terms of academics, they suggested setting realistic goals for your grades and monitoring grades using online. “Talk to your professors,” they encouraged. “They will help you.” The alumni panel eased the minds of worried members of the Class of 2018, providing useful tips and resources that will set them up for success navigating college life.

Thank you to the following alumni who came back to speak to our senior class: M’Balia Bangoura ’16, Amber Bond ’17, Duncan Cappar ’17, Lexi DeBartolo ’17, Clarence Dodge ’17, Aidan Dowdy ’16, Todd Humphrey ’16, Garrett Luhman ’17, Evan Murphy ’16, Nick Murphy ’17, and Kiarra Womack ’17.
