Bianca Tengerdy and Oliver Tannheiser, ODA class of 2015, participated in a video exchange conference call with a Spanish 2 Honors class on Tuesday, February 6. Since graduating from ODA, Bianca, a former ODA Spanish student, has just returned from completing a semester abroad in Paris to study French. Oliver, who studied, Spanish, French, and Mandarin while at ODA, has studied Russian and French in college, and completed and had participated in an ODA cultural exchange trip to China. In addition to significantly boosting language learning, living and traveling abroad provides students with a unique perspective of the culture and traditions of the country. Bianca and Oliver talked about the importance of learning other languages and how it becomes easier to learn languages once you speak more than one. As Oliver put it, “the best thing about speaking other languages is you can connect with a more diverse group of people and make more friends.” Both Bianca and Oliver hope to continue their foreign language studies in college. The Spanish students had an opportunity to ask them questions about their experiences living abroad.
