Fourth Annual Hair Donation Benefits Children

While many students volunteer their time, and some fundraise, another way ODA students choose to give back is to donate their hair! Initiated by Ashley DeBartolo ’18, ODA hosted its fourth annual hair donation event for Children with Hair Loss. The non-profit provides wigs at no cost to children who have experienced hair loss due to a medical condition. Ashley shared a personal story with her peers about watching her stepfather lose his hair during chemotherapy when she was a child. She remembered how scary is was to witness hair loss and sympathized with any child having to face it. Ashley found Children with Hair Loss and has organized hair donation events in each of her high school years.

 

At this year’s assembly, twelve students and four teachers donated 144 inches of hair. While stylists from Fresh Salon cut the donated hair, the rest of the Upper School competed by class in a Hair Quiz. Over four years, ODA has donated 650 inches of hair to this special organization. What a wonderful way to exemplify the core value of service through a simple act with a big impact.
