Class of 2018 Records Highest SAT Average in School History
The College Counseling Department is pleased to announce that the graduating Class of 2018 has the highest average SAT score in ODA history.
Darryl Calkins, Co-Director of College Counseling, attributes this uptick in scores to a combination of several factors; students are better prepared due to changes made during 2016 in the College Board PSAT testing process, the introduction of the ACT Aspire program, and ODA's addition of small group standardized test preparation classes during summer break. These changes have resulted in tremendous positive strides for students, helping shift their mindset away from an "I am not a good test-taker" to "I can do this again next year." Students who took the SAT since these changes have been implemented have reported a more positive outlook after completing their test, in addition to having dramatically increased test scores. ODA administrators are pleased with the increase in average scores and student positivity, and hope to see this upward trend continue in the years to come.
Historically, our seniors perform well above average on standardized tests and earn an impressive amount in merit scholarships. This year, the 68 graduating seniors of the Class of 2018 have been accepted into 150 colleges in the U.S. and Europe with 88% of the class receiving at least one merit based scholarship. The Class of 2018 as a whole has been awarded $9,250,000 in merit scholarships. The class includes five declared Arts majors and 12 student-athletes playing at the collegiate level. Every member of the graduating class will attend college next year. Congratulations, Class of 2018, on making history at ODA!
