Creativity Abounds at 6th Annual Cardboard Challenge

Children all over the world take part in the Cardboard Challenge–an event devoted to creativity and imagination–every fall.
The Cardboard Challenge began following the overwhelming success of the short film, “Caine's Arcade,” the story of a 9-year boy and his elaborate cardboard arcade.

At ODA, our Cardboard Challenge is open to all of our students and their families. Held on the Historic Siesta Key Campus, participants had a great time designing, building, and playing their creations. In addition to the cardboard supplied by our partner, Mattress Firm, participants use a wide variety of materials to build and decorate their games. There are real arcade prizes for all of the players, and the kids had a great time showing off their games, and playing everyone else's. This year's theme, "Candy Land" helped make the event especially colorful and fun!

In addition to the construction fun, participants were encouraged to bring a pair of gently worn shoes to donate to a local foster care program with whom Mattress Firm partners. Proceeds from Cardboard Challenge benefit the Imagination Foundation, an organization founded to find, foster, and fund creativity and entrepreneurship in children around the world.

A special thank you to The Out-of-Door Academy Parent Association for donating the prizes for the arcade.
