Upper School Students Visit the Lily School

Mr. Andy Lemieux’s Advanced Placement (AP) Literature and Composition class traveled to The Lily School for Child Development on Wednesday, October 31. This is the fifth year that seniors have dressed as Peanuts characters and read the classic story, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, to the students on Halloween morning. They truly enjoyed reading to the young students and hope that these annual visits will foster a greater interest and excitement for reading and literature for the students.

“Our annual visit to The Lily School is one of the events I look forward to most each year, as it combines a love of learning with three our core values: excellence, responsibility, and service,” said Mr. Lemieux. In addition to reading to students, the Out-of-Door seniors also played games and joined the little ones in circle time. They also participated with The Lily School students in their school-wide Halloween parade.

"After walking into the Lily School, we were immediately welcomed by the staff and all of the children. Although we were positively overwhelmed by their adorable costumes, the kids' energy and desire to play and was what brightened our Halloween. Every interaction with each kid was a jovial and loving interaction, emanating from both our AP Lit class and the children with whom we were reading, playing, and trick-or-treating. I hope I helped make the kids' Halloween as memorable as they did for me," said Lilli Carlton ’19.

“Seeing our students embrace these young children makes this annual event a rewarding one. I look forward to planning this trip for years to come,” Mr. Lemieux concluded.
