On Wednesday evening, songs spanning more than 1,000 years of musical history were performed by talented ODA students during the Middle and Upper School Winter Choral Concert “Music Across Time.”
The concert began with haunting harmonic chants that slowly evolved into upbeat melodies. Voices soared on von Bingen’s “O Virtus Sapientiae” and Mozart’s “Alleluia Canon.” Olivia Knego ‘20 impressed with Ben-Haim’s “HaTikvah” and Sofia Delgado ‘19 crooned a moving and emotional rendition of “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” Moving up the timeline, the singers performed several pieces from the 1930s-1970s. The liveliest number came with the apropos “Singin’ in the Rain,” performed by the Middle School Chorus featuring Liam Frangos ‘23 and Charley Hunn ‘25. Upper School chorus followed with dynamic performances of two hits by The Mamas and the Papas.
As the chorus selections transitioned to modern day, Michael Dyer ‘21 and Dru Cappar ‘21 performed an impressive country segment, increasing the concert’s eclectic offerings. Senior Kelland Timothy gave a stellar solo performance of the Counting Crows “Anna Begins” before the show closed with some upbeat modern hits.
