Arthur Wang ‘21 Plays Carnegie Hall

During the 2019 Forte International Music Competition finals in New York City on February 2, The Out-of-Door Academy’s Arthur Wang ‘21, competed as one of two finalists in the 16 to 18 year old “Seniors” age group. Standing on the legendary stage in world-renowned Carnegie Hall, Arthur played “Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor,” Jean-Baptiste Accolay.
The well-disciplined sophomore practiced the piece intensively for ten months on his own with his master teacher Sean O'Neal at the Sarasota Music Conservatory and with the Sarasota Orchestra. “I practiced more than usual because of its complexity and because I had to collaborate with the pianist,” says Arthur.

The international competition was a conglomeration of highly talented musicians and vocalists from all over the world. “I felt honored to be with the most talented musicians in the world...to play in the venue of Carnegie Hall was like a dream. This is the highest achievement for a teenage musician.”

Arthur says that in addition to all of his hard work and perseverance, he has always been supported by his family, especially his grandmother. “My grandmother encouraged me to practice every day and went with me to my lessons every week from when I was five years old. She always said, ‘Nothing is impossible if you put your heart into it!’ My grandmother was thrilled that she happened to be in the United States by chance and was able to see me perform at Carnegie Hall.” Congratulations, Arthur, on an incredible accomplishment.
