Lower School Students Showcase STEM Skills at Science Olympiad

Last week our young scientists at the Lower School had an exciting morning filled with fun, hands-on learning and experiments during the annual Science Olympiad. Many of these scientific activities occurred in outdoor spaces, keeping with the Out-of-Door tradition of students learning beyond the walls of a traditional classroom.
The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten classes worked in teams to build towers, first grade worked on a flying egg drop experiment, and second graders tried their hand at bridge building. Across the mulch, third graders dropped eggs from the top floor of the Three-story Building and fourth graders had a catapult contest. The highlight of the Olympiad was when the whole school lined up on the field to watch the fifth graders take their turn blasting their water bottle rockets into the atmosphere! All of the projects utilized concepts students have learned  in MITT classes, including calculations, physics, and design thinking.
