Powerful Performances by Upper School Vocalists in Spring Musical

The cast of twelve powerhouse vocalists sounded like a full chorus of dozens as every song offered a rich tapestry of sound and emotion. Rich harmonies enhanced the message of these poetic songs that told the story of pivotal moments in life. Some pieces were comedic and light like Mrs. Claus lamenting her time alone during the holiday season, while others were heavier, addressing topics of justice, patriotism, freedom, regret, and hope. The production’s central theme was about surviving these moments and how to go on in a new set of circumstances—a new world—even against seemingly overwhelming odds.

“Songs for a New World” was the final production overseen by Associate Head of School L’Tanya Evans, who will take on a new role as Head of School at Academy Prep Center of Tampa next year. After 17 years at ODA and producing and directing credits on 21 productions, this final show with a theme of hope and inspiration seems fitting for all she has given to our students through the years. As the curtain closed on the final performance, students, parents, and faculty members honored Ms. Evans with a rousing standing ovation. Ms. Evans shared remarks about her time in our theater program, thanking those who have contributed to the program’s success throughout the years, and congratulating our student-artists on their monumental growth. Congratulations on the cast and crew on an outstanding performance!
