Freshman Logan Tribble ends the game with a two-out RBI single.
LAKEWOOD RANCH
Freshman Logan Tribble delivered a dramatic two-out, RBI single to center field to lift The Out-of-Door Academy to a 4-3 victory over Fort Myers Southwest Christian Academy on Tuesday night.
The Class 3A-Region 2 semifinal baseball game took more than three hours to play before the Thunder (23-4) was able to prevail.
ODA center fielder Austin Brinling scored the winning run after reaching base on a two-out single in the bottom of the 10th of the extra-inning contest.
After Brinling singled, he stole second and third bases and scored easily on Tribble’s base-hit.
ODA coach Tim Orlosky got great efforts from the four right-handers who took the mound for the Thunder. Senior Nick Romagnola started and pitched the first three innings before giving way to fellow senior Austen Kessler.
Tyler Colditz, who started the game at first base, was next before starting shortstop and sidewinder pitcher Mason Kolbe came on to pick up the win in relief.
ODA pitchers held Kings (20-8) hitters to just five hits.
The Thunder got a double from catcher P.J. Fincher and a triple from right-fielder Julien Brown as Kings pitchers also put their best foot forward.
The star of the game was Southwest Christian starting pitcher Jovan Gill. The right-handed pitcher, who bats left-handed, hurled the first seven innings and left with the game tied at 3-3. Gill was also 4-for-4 with a walk at the plate. Gill got four of Southwest’s five hits.
The Thunder will now play for the region championship on Friday night at 7 p.m. against Fort Myers Canterbury.
