ODA Student-Athletes Top Area Honors

Out-of-Door is pleased to report that 2018-2019 has been the most successful year in the history of ODA Athletics! This year has seen the the largest number of student-athletes committing to compete in their sport–including several Division 1 colleges and universities, a huge amount of State Qualifiers, Regional Champions, and District Champions, and the highest number of ODA student-athletes nominated as HT Preps All-Area Athletes and Finalists.
Over the course of the year, 10 student-athletes signed commitment letters to a college or university. Their acceptance to Division 1 schools including Boston University, Boston College, Wake Forest University, and Colgate University, demonstrate not only the quality of our academic program, but the depth of our students outside of the classroom.

The Thunder had two team (baseball, girls lacrosse) and four individual (Maria Shaw ‘23, Zachary Szmania ‘19, Sarsen Whatmore ‘19, Saraiah Walkes ‘21) District Champions, two individual Regional Champions, and 16 individual State Qualifiers.

Setting a new team record, the  girls lacrosse team finished their season with an impressive 13-2 record, clinching the District Championship. The team dominated HT Preps All-Area Athletes list, with Adelaide Mahler ‘19 named as a finalist, seven players named to the First Team, one honorable mention, and Coach Kippie Crouch honored as Girls Lacrosse Coach of the Year.

Overall, a record number of ODA student-athletes were recognized by HT Preps during the year. In total, 42 Thunder athletes representing 11 sports were named to the elite HT Preps list. ODA had two candidates for player of the year in soccer - Filip Svoboda'19 on the boys side and Madisyn Opstal '19 for the girls.

“We are extremely proud of all of our student-athletes,” praised Athletic Director Coach Kippie Crouch. “This year, Thunder athletes have made huge impacts on the competitiveness of our programs. They have changed the ways we play the games and leveled up the playing fields–we are grateful of their representation of our School community. We respect these student-athletes for their commitment to their sports and celebrate their work ethics, determination, and perseverance.”
