ODA’s McWilliam wins 1A-6 title

Sophomore Tristan McWilliam becomes first Out-of-Door runner to win a district title; ODA girls place second
Sophomore Tristan McWilliam of Out-of-Door Academy captured the Class 1A-District 6 cross country meet Wednesday in 16 minutes, 39 seconds.

McWilliam became the first Thunder runner ever to capture a district title.

Rounding out the top five for Out-of-Door Academy were freshman Tyler Beck (15th in 18:35), freshman Sloan Arslander (16th in 18:44), eighth-grader Stig Soderberg (35th in 19:38) and freshman Owen Eakle (36th in 19:38).

The Thunder finished fourth as a team in the boys race with 103 points just behind Saint Stephen’s (93) and in front of Bradenton Christian, which took eighth with 221 points.

Michael Thomas of Saint Stephen’s was seventh in 18:02.

In the girls race, Out-of-Door took second with 68 points, just behind Fort Myers Canterbury, which finished with 57.

The runner-up finish snapped a streak of district titles for the two-time defending champion Thunder.

Freshman Maria Shaw was seventh in 21:53 for Out-of-Door. Senior Abby Eakle (10th in 22:22), Maeve Studdiford (13th in 22:31), Chelsea Ball (22nd in 23:23) and Ximena Barries placed (27th in 23:36) also scored for the Thunder.

The Imagine School at North Port took eighth with 193 points and Saint Stephen’s grabbed 10th with 226 points to move on to the regionals.

The top 10 teams and first 30 individuals move to the Class 1A-Region 3 meet Nov. 1 at Holloway Park in Lakeland.
