Sculpture Honoring ODA Art Teacher Encourages Students to Soar

A whimsical sculpture created by beloved ODA art teacher Carolyn Johnston is donated to the school by the artist’s daughter.
For many years, "Windy" a colorful, large-scale papier mâché sculpture, was hung in the home of beloved Out-of-Door art teacher Mrs. Carolyn Johnston. Mrs. Johnston created “Windy” to be a playful and joyous addition to any space, and she was a welcome fixture, delighting her family, grandchildren, and many guests.

When Mrs. Johnston retired in May 2002 after 24 years of distinguished service, the Carolyn Johnston Butterfly Courtyard was dedicated in her honor. Following her recent passing in 2019, "Windy" was donated to the School by her daughter Fayanne to honor Mrs.Johnston's legacy at ODA. "Windy" is now up and flying in the Lower School art room encouraging children to imagine, be creative, and soar. Please stop by to welcome her back!
