Big Wins for ODA at County STEM Fair

Out-of-Door students were frequent visitors to the award podium during the Sarasota County STEM Fair award ceremony.
ODA students from the Lower and Upper Schools were proud recipients of six awards during the 2020 Sarasota County STEM Awards Ceremony held at the Venice Performing Arts Center. Each team of students worked on the project for months – before school, during free periods, during lunchtime, and after school –  in order to have them ready for the County STEM Fair held in January at Robarts Arena.

During the competition, each group presented to judges, discussing their theories, process, and how they planned to move forward with their projects. They also responded to challenging, off-the-cuff questions from the judges. "The judging experience was a lot of fun as I could talk about oysters for hours at this point. I felt very prepared from all the presentations I had done for my research class thus far," said Reece Whatmore '21. "My favorite part of the experience was sharing my project with others. We are super passionate about the work we have been doing and having the opportunity to meet new people and share our project is amazing. It is also very inspiring to see so many young people working hard on their projects to change the world."

Projects from three teams of Out-of-Door students were chosen from the hundreds of submissions as top finishers in their respective categories. We are proud of all of the Out-of-Door students who participated in this year’s STEM Fair and recognize their academic achievements. We offer our congratulations to the following students whose projects were chosen to receive awards:
