Cross Country: Out-of-Door girls finish second in Class 1A_Region 3

The Out-of-Door Academy girls cross country team finished second at the Class 1A-Region 3 meet Saturday at Holloway Park. 
The Thunder scored 100 points to finish behind only Cambridge Christian School’s 41.

Maria Shaw led Out-of-Door with a sixth-place finish in 20 minutes, 55 seconds. Eliana Black of Cambridge won the race in 18:25.

Also scoring for the Thunder were Ellie Hierholzer (11th in 21:17), Emerson Miller (32nd in 22:33), Chelsea Ball (35th in 22:48) and Emma Arrigo (46th in 23:25).

On the boys’ side, Out-of-Door’s Tristan McWilliam grabbed fourth in 17:01 and earned a trip to the state tournament as one of the four at-large runners. Dalin Mitchell of Seffner Christian captured first place in 16:25.

Michael Thomas of Saint Stephen’s also advanced as an individual, taking seventh in 17:29.

The top four teams and the top four individuals not from those teams compete in the Florida High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships on Nov. 14 in Tallahassee.

The Thunder boys were fifth with 178 points, followed by Saint Stephen’s with 188 points.
