ODA Remembers the Importance of Giving

The Out-of-Door Academy has partnered with Gocio Elementary School on a variety of service projects for more than a decade. Of the many programs that exist across our schools, the annual Thanksgiving baskets are one of the most meaningful traditions. Click to view our Thanksgiving donations.
This year ODA families, faculty, and staff on both campuses are providing complete Thanksgiving meals for 75 families at Gocio who otherwise are unable to enjoy a holiday dinner.

Each family’s basket contains all the makings of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Families receive ingredients for a full feast consisting of turkey, gravy, pumpkin pie, and multiple side dishes including mashed potatoes, stuffing, candied sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, and cranberry sauce. In addition to the food items, paper goods, candles, and a tablecloth, we also include a student-created recipe book detailing how to prepare all of the dishes in both English and Spanish. The book also includes Thanksgiving-themed coloring pages for the children. The generous contributions of the students, faculty, and staff were packed into bins decorated and donated by our Parent Association by ODA volunteers.

With the approach of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Out-of-Door community understands the importance of combining efforts to supply the ingredients to create a bountiful meal for other families to enjoy. Our yearly programs with Gocio Elementary and other organizations reinforce the importance of our students’ role in the world to help others.
