The Future is Bright for the Class of 2021!

This year’s seniors excel in standardized testing, early decision acceptances, and NCAA commitments.
  • 1300 class average on the SAT including a perfect score of 1600
  • Highest number of Early Decision Acceptances in School History
  • 10 Committed NCAA Student-Athletes
The Out-of-Door Academy College Counseling Office (CCO) is pleased to announce that the graduating Class of 2021 has achieved an average SAT score of 1300. In addition, one member of the senior class, Eli Newman, is among the 500 students–out of 2 million SAT test-takers nationwide–who earned a perfect score of 1600. ODA's 2020 SAT average exceeded both state and national averages, scoring 31% above the state average and 24% above the national average.

The strong performance on the SAT is attributed to a combination of several factors starting with our seniors' commitment to put in the time on test preparation. By adding mandatory participation in the PSAT during freshman and sophomore years and increasing access to online test prep, Out-of-Door students are more comfortable and confident towards the standardized testing process. The CCO also notes that every ODA student who participated in Revolution Prep’s small-group SAT prep course offered at Out-of-Door saw improvement in their score. “Partnering with Revolution Prep has been a significant driver in improving scores and reducing students’ fear about taking the test,” says Co-Director of College Counseling Darryl Calkins.

In addition, the CCO reports a 12.5% increase in Early Decision acceptances for this year’s seniors. Schools that accepted ODA students Early Decision:

  • Boston University
  • Carnegie Mellon University
  • Colby College
  • Duke University
  • Emory University
  • George Washington University
  • University of Miami (3)
  • Northeastern University
  • Santa Clara University
  • Southern Methodist University
  • Trinity College (2)

10 members of the class of 2021 have committed to play NCAA athletics with 5 more student-athletes expected to compete at the next level. This represents 20% of Class of 2021. The Athletic Department congratulates these student-athletes for all of their hard work and commitment to their sports and for the manner in which they have represented their school during their careers at ODA. Go Thunder!
