Music filled the cool night air during the annual Jazz Under the Stars concert on Wednesday evening. Parents listened attentively to a wide range of songs as the Upper School Orchestra, Jazz Band, and talented soloists took the stage of the Wood Family Amphitheater.

To open the event, the Upper School Orchestra set the mood with an impressive version of the classic Led Zeppelin song, “Stairway to Heaven.” The Advanced Orchestra Ensemble followed, playing “Moondance” with several standout soloists.

The Jazz Band turned up the heat on the jazz theme. Beginning with the upbeat “Jumping’ at the Woodside,” they played through a set of classic and contemporary pieces, including “Boris and Natasha,” “My Favorite Things,” “Swing, Swung, Swung,” and “Things Ain’t What They Used to Be.”

Interspersed throughout the program were phenomenal vocal soloists. “Fly Me to the Moon” by Gavin Gargano ’24, “Don’t Know Why” by Hannah Wahl ’23,  and “Feeling Good” by Olivia Millin ’23 were all delivered with confidence and skill. The final soloist, Madisyn Wandall ’22 performed a particularly powerful and soulful rendition of “Moon River” that brought the audience to their feet.
