Mathematics at The Out-of-Door Academy Middle School focuses on developing each student’s mastery of mathematics while fostering the creative and critical thinking needed to analyze and solve problems.
The Middle School mathematics curriculum mixes the best of the old and the new. From the study of traditional topics of geometry and algebra to relatively recent mathematical developments of data analysis and coding, students at Out-of-Door draw upon a range of mathematical disciplines to analyze and solve problems. The technologies used in middle school mathematics classes range from pencil and paper, calculators and spreadsheets, to iPads and other high-tech tools selected to make learning more effective, efficient, and engaging.
In Middle School mathematics classrooms, students learn how to work effectively, both individually and collaboratively. Middle School teachers teach organizational and collaboration skills, require the completion of homework assignments, encourage student perseverance when the answer is not immediately evident, and provide ample extra help to ensure that students build the skills needed to succeed.
