Student Life

Community Service

Community service opportunities exist for students in all grade levels. School-wide initiatives like food drives bring the entire community together. These opportunities hone leadership skills, encourage compassion, and instill a sense of responsibility.

  • Lower School

In the Lower School, Caring Kids Community organizes age-appropriate volunteer opportunities for students and their families. At school, students participate in safety patrol, litter control, packing boxes at the food bank, organizing holiday bags for homeless shelters, writing cards for our troops, and delivering Thanksgiving meals to families in need.
  • Middle School

Middle School students focus on themes of “Kids Helping Kids” and “Kids Helping the Community.” Service activities include fundraisers, awareness-raisers, and providing direct service to those in need through local organizations. In Middle School, students often lead service projects of personal interest and concern, raising awareness and helping the greater good.
  • Upper School

Service is one of The Out-of-Door Academy’s five core values and as such, all Upper School students are required to participate in 25 hours of annual community service. Most students far exceed this minimum. By promoting students to connect with people outside their immediate world, we strive to influence them to become positive leaders of their generation.
