Out-of-Door Then...

An Institution for Child Centered Learning

Nestled on the barrier island of Siesta Key, Out-of-Door students in 1924 thrived during lessons conducted on the beach or “out-of-doors” on the historic campus. Swimming in the ocean and horseback riding on the sand shaped physical and cognitive well being, while forward thinking educational instruction cultivated young minds. Our school, the second independent school established in Florida, was beginning to take shape as a leading institution for child-centered learning.

And Now...

A Continued Commitment to an Educational Vision

Over a century later, The Out-of-Door Academy remains committed to providing a transformational educational experience for its students, while remaining grounded in the vision of its remarkable founders. The Out-of-Door Academy serves more than 870 students in pre-K through grade 12 on its three campuses.

As we continuously evaluate the ever-changing needs of our students, new academic strategies, innovative programs, cutting-edge learning spaces, and an unwavering focus on our core values guide our trajectory for the next 100 years.

The Living Legacy Lookbook was designed to reflect the spirit, people, and purpose of today’s Out-of-Door. Within its pages, you'll find a snapshot of our school as it stands now—alive with traditions, full of energy, and grounded in the moments that make it meaningful. Just as the book captures the essence of ODA's centennial moment, it will one day offer future generations a vivid glimpse into what it meant to be part of ODA during this chapter in its history.
