Step into the spotlight and journey through the rich history of musical theatre in this dynamic course that blends historical exploration with performance. Students will examine key milestones in the evolution of musical theatre, from its early roots to modern masterpieces, while gaining insight into the cultural and artistic impact of each era.
Through in-depth study of influential composers such as Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and others, students will discover how iconic works shaped the landscape of musical theatre. Each decade will come to life as students perform songs, scenes, and ensemble pieces from landmark shows, deepening their appreciation for the craft of storytelling through song and dance.
No prior experience in musical theatre is required—just a love of performance and a curiosity to explore Broadway’s legacy. By the end of the course, students will have developed a well-rounded understanding of musical theatre’s history and its transformative power, both on stage and beyond. This course will culminate with a class showcase where students will present some of the pieces they worked on. Registration must be completed online.

This course is designed to help students with the essential math skills and strategies needed for the SAT/ACT exams. Whether you're looking to boost your score or strengthen your understanding of key math concepts, this class provides targeted instruction and practice to help you achieve your best results.
This class will cover topics relative to the standardized college entrance exams (math only), and work on their calculator skills to help improve their chances of achieving their target scores. A TI-Nspire CX II calculator or Desmos on a computer is required (all ODA high school students have this). Eligible students must have completed Geometry. Space is limited. Registration must be completed online.
The Out-of-Door Summer Academy features specialized specialty sport camps where student-athletes can learn a new sport or improve their skills. We also offer the popular Thunder Sports Day Camp for an experience with a variety of team sports.

We invite you to come experience Sarasota’s most exciting sports camp! Our goal is to provide your child with a well-rounded experience in the world of sports. We focus on developing not only athletic skills, but what it means to be a team player, what it takes to be a leader, and the importance of integrity in sports. Team-building and good sportsmanship take center stage. This camp runs for five weeks. Athletes will participate in a variety of sports and games that may include basketball, volleyball, soccer, wiffleball, bombardment, team handball, kickball, capture the flag, track ball, ultimate ball, floor hockey, and more! Games will be modified to accommodate athletes’ skill level and age group. On Fridays, we have fun water activities and Kona Ice! All activities are subject to change.
Lunch options will include either the hot meal choice or a pasta option each day. Pre-made sandwiches and salads will be available as an alternative. If your child has food allergies, please include these on your registration form and also contact Campus Dining Director Scott Iwanicki to discuss meal options. This camp is open to all children entering first through sixth grade. Your child will be grouped based on age and skill level. Our coaches will assess the children throughout the week and group accordingly. The focus of this camp is to give young athletes a fun and safe environment to play a variety of sports and games. Extended Care is available for the Thunder Sports Camp at a rate of $65 per week from 8:00-9:00 am and 3:00-5:00 pm. Prompt pick up is expected. Please note: There will be a late fee added for late pick-ups of $20 for the first quarter hour and $1 for each additional minute. Late fees will automatically be billed to the card on file used for registration. There is no drop-in care available. All students must be pre-registered for camp and Extended Care in order to participate.
Counselor-in-Training Program at Uihlein Campus - Volunteer Program - Rising Grades 9-12

This program is designed to provide an opportunity for Upper School students to develop job skills and the opportunity to earn volunteer hours. Our Counselors-in-Training (CITs) will assist our counselors with all the day-to-day camp activities at Thunder Sports Camp. This may include assisting with set-up and break-down of sports games, assisting head counselors with sports games with children, and helping at pick-up and dismissal. Our CITs must commit to the entire week and uphold our expectations of professionalism in order to participate. All CITs will be expected to complete the entire week in order to earn volunteer hours. CIT’s will be under the direct supervision of the Thunder Sports Camp Director. We have a limited number of spots available for each week and these are on a first-come basis. CITs may attend Extended Care until 4:30 pm to help if they would like to earn extra hours.

Campers will spend a week learning the essentials of basketball and team play while developing a love for the game! While learning basic fundamental basketball skills, like dribbling, passing, shooting and defense, players will build their skills while interacting and engaging in basketball games, team building exercises and having fun!
Each session begins with a half-hour open shoot around followed by instructional skill building and then concluding with a half-hour scrimmage. The daily schedule is subject to change depending on instructional needs. All skill levels are encouraged to attend.

Join us this summer at Out-of-Door’s Co-educational Soccer Camp, led by Andres Parra, ODA’s seasoned Athletic Director and Soccer Coach. With over 20 years of experience in athletic leadership, Coach Parra has a strong background in developing young athletes, having served as a Director of Athletics in an independent school setting for more than 15 years. His coaching philosophy emphasizes hard work, team building, and fostering respect, honesty, and integrity. This comprehensive camp schedule blends fundamental skills, tactical development, and fun competitive play. The World Cup tournament aspect will keep campers excited and motivated while allowing them to showcase what they've learned in a team-oriented environment. Focus areas will be technical footwork, tactical team play, strength & conditioning, indoor/futbol games, World Cup team play, small-sided games, individual skill development, and having fun! Camp will typically begin outdoors in the morning and move inside following lunch.

This camp is designed to both refine the skills of current volleyball players and introduce the game to new athletes in a fun, supportive environment. Athletes will work on individual volleyball fundamentals—including passing, setting, hitting, and serving—as well as important team concepts such as team offense, team defense, transitions, and out-of-system play.
Players will be grouped by age and skill level to ensure a developmentally appropriate experience for all participants. Instruction will include a balance of skill development, regular gameplay, and modified games to maximize learning while keeping the camp engaging and exciting.
Coach Horr is currently the ODA Middle School Volleyball Coach and has previously served as the ODA Varsity and JV Coach. He is also the former owner and director of Suncoast Volleyball and has extensive experience coaching club athletes ages 9–17.

Ready to take your game from the kitchen line to the champion's circle? The Pickleball Performance Academy is a comprehensive summer camp experience designed for student-athletes in 4th through 11th grade, accommodating every ability level from absolute novice to competitive intermediate.
We understand that a 4th grader learns differently than an 11th grader. Our success lies in dynamically grouping participants by skill level (Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Intermediate) and age tier (e.g., 4th-7th Grade and 8th-11th Grade) to ensure focused, challenging, and age-appropriate instruction.
What We Offer Every Player:
Dynamic Grouping: Players are evaluated on Day 1 and placed into small cohorts where all instruction, drilling, and match play is calibrated to their specific needs.

Get ready for the fastest-growing, most fun sport around! Our Dinkleball Aces Camp is the perfect, active introduction to Pickleball for our youngest players in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.
We treat Pickleball like a playground of coordination! We use lighter, smaller paddles and soft, bright balls to make it easy for little hands to manage and ensure instant success. This isn't just about learning rules; it's about building fundamental athletic skills through engaging, cooperative play.
What Makes This Camp Special?
- Mini-Paddle Pros: We focus on developing hand-eye coordination, balance, and quick footwork through fun drills and relay races.
- The Kitchen is Cookin': Kids will learn the basic goal of the game and how to gently "dink" the ball over the net in the non-volley zone (the "kitchen") with simple, positive instruction.

Camp Banyan is one of our most popular day camps and is held on our Historic Siesta Key Campus. Each fun-filled, themed week offers a brand new experience full of exciting activities that may include beach days, off-campus field trips, and special themed activities. Our time on campus is spent experiencing a wide variety of activities which may include water days, super cool arts and crafts, cooking, hands-on science, outside sports and games, team building, drama, leadership building activities, and more! Each week ends with fun water activities and Kona Ice!
All campers must be toilet-trained and be able to use the toilet facilities independently, as well as board a bus with minimal assistance. A weekly email with specific details will be sent prior to the start of each week. *All activities and field trips are subject to change.

Week 1: June 8-12 - Coastal Explorers
Get ready for a week of sun, sand, and seaside discovery! Our Coastal Explorers will dive into hands-on adventures as we learn about the amazing ecosystems right in our own backyard.
Campers will visit Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium to discover fascinating marine life and the scientists who work to protect our oceans. We’ll also spend a day at Siesta Beach, famous for its powdery white sand and calm, clear water — the perfect place for beach games and coastal exploration.
Our explorers will travel to Venice Beach, known as the Shark Tooth Capital of the World, where campers will search the shoreline for prehistoric treasures and learn about Florida’s ancient marine history. Back on campus, we’ll cool off with an exciting Water Day, packed with splashy fun and outdoor games.
This week is perfect for curious kids who love the ocean, wildlife, and a little sandy adventure!
Week 2: June 15-19 - Curious Critters
Get ready to explore the wild and wonderful side of tropical climates! During Curious Critters week, campers will dive into the exotic plants, animals, and environments that make tropical regions so vibrant and unique. They will learn about exotic fruits during the week. Campers will discover fascinating creatures from rainforests, mangroves, and coastal ecosystems while celebrating the natural luxuries of our own environment while hiking the trails at our local park. Campers will also visit the Sarasota Jungle Gardens and enjoy our beautiful Siesta Beach.

Week 3: June 22-26 - Happy Camper: Together We Shine!
This heart-filled week celebrates kindness, connection, and community. Campers will work together for a week of fun filled with an Acts of Kindness Challenge, and tons of teamwork and group games! A week that is inspired by peace movements and global friendship traditions, campers will explore how friendships are formed, nurtured, and strengthened. We will be creating Kindness Kits for our local community. Campers will show a little kindness at Dakin Dairy Farm, play cooperative games at Enjoying Bayfront Park and plant our feet in the sand at Siesta Beach.
From learning to weave friendship bracelets to tie-dying fun and peace-themed projects, this joyful week encourages campers to spread positivity and make meaningful connections.
Week 4: June 29-July 3 - Science in Motion!
Put on your lab coats and thinking caps—Science in Motion week is all about discovery, innovation, and how the world changes over time! Campers will make bouncy balls and dive into exciting science experiments, hands-on engineering challenges, and fascinating discoveries about life on Earth. From erupting volcanoes to testing parachutes and building strong bridges, campers will explore cause and effect through problem-solving. Fossils, timelines, and museum adventures help bring the past to life as curiosity leads the way in this dynamic, discovery-filled week. Campers will visit the Bishop Museum of Science, play at the Robinson Preserve and relax at our local beaches!
Week 5: July 13-17 - Little Pirates, Big Adventure
Ahoy, mateys! Set sail on a swashbuckling adventure inspired by Florida pirate lore and the legendary tales of Gasparilla. Campers will step into the world of pirates through teamwork, storytelling, and games like pirate relay races and Capture the Flag. Campers will enjoy getting into the theme participating in a “loot the beach” treasure hunt at Turtle Beach, pirate storytelling and reading maps at Phillippi Estate Park, as well as learning about indigenous history at Florida’s historic Spanish Point.
Have some treasure-filled fun designing pirate gear to searching for hidden treasure loot, this week is packed with action, imagination, and seaside adventure!
Counselor-in-Training Program at Siesta Key Campus - Volunteer Program - Rising Grades 9-12

This program is designed to provide an opportunity for Upper School students to develop job skills and the opportunity to earn volunteer hours. Our Counselors-in-Training (CITs) will assist our counselors with all the day-to-day camp activities at Camp Banyan. This may include field trips, arts and crafts, sports activities, group games, and helping at pick-up and dismissal. Our CITs must commit to the entire week and uphold our expectations of professionalism in order to participate and earn volunteer hours. CITs will be under the direct supervision of Camp Banyan’s director. We have a limited number of spots available for each week and these are on a first-come basis. CITs may attend Extended Care until 4:30 pm to help if they would like to earn extra hours.

Service is a core value at ODA. In support of providing students with service experiences, Hearts of ODA offers a weeklong immersion in hands-on experiences. Students will volunteer in a variety of contexts doing activities such as making crafts, playing Bingo, gardening, removing invasive species of plants, packaging food for local food banks, and helping local animal rescue and shelters. *All trips are subject to change based on organizations’ availability.
Lunch will be provided daily. Campers should dress in appropriate clothing for the daily adventure. An updated schedule will be sent out to all registered participants the week prior to camp. Rising 9th graders will earn 10 hours towards their first 25 hour requirement for annual service hours.

Join our exciting Animal Menagerie camp designed for young explorers to dive into the fascinating world of amazing creatures! Chain Reaction Lab is a week-long summer camp where students design and build creative Rube Goldberg style chain reaction machines using simple machines and everyday materials. Each day features short mini lessons followed by multiple “supply releases” that challenge campers to adapt, problem solve, and expand their designs throughout the day. Students test, revise, and collaborate as their machines grow more complex, learning key engineering and critical-thinking skills along the way. The week concludes with a final showcase where campers present and demonstrate their completed chain reaction machines for families and friends.

In the final class, students present their “pup-approved” pitches, building communication skills, creativity, and confidence. No prior experience needed, just big ideas and imagination.

Get ready to sing, dance, and act in our high-energy summer camp! This program is designed for students who want to build their performing skills while having the time of their lives.
Become a "Triple Threat": Master the essentials of Singing, Acting, and Dancing. Learn fun Broadway choreography, improve your vocal range, and explore character development through acting games. Build self-confidence: Our supportive environment helps every student conquer stage fright, take creative risks, and find their unique voice.
Performance Ready: Campers will also explore stage makeup and costumes to help bring their characters to life for the big show.

What Campers Will Experience
- Students rotate through specialized workshops to develop their acting, vocal, characterization and dance skills needed for success on the stage.
- On Stage: the students block out their scenes using stage directions, characterization, tableaux, projection and articulation - while singing, acting, and dancing.
- Stage Hands, Backstage & Technical Artists: Will enhance their skill set in the areas of set, light, costume, makeup and prop design. By engaging in the read throughs and watching rehearsals they will gather the information needed to run the house, backstage, wings and tech support for the show.
Performance: The session culminates in a Full Main Stage Musical Production of Thumbelina

Combining the topics of stop motion movie making and robotics, this camp has something for everyone. Enjoy two days of working with a partner to make a stop motion movie with titles, credits and sounds. All equipment (including Lego pieces) is provided for camp use but campers are welcome to bring their own Lego and/or action figures. A link will be sent to parents to download the finished movie. Then enjoy three days of robotics using three different types of robots. Learn to code, do challenges, and have fun during free time.

STEMania Scientific Discovery Lab– Explore. Experiment. Innovate! This camps a hands-on, immersive STEM experience for upper elementary students. Students rotate through engaging labs that introduce science, technology, engineering, and math through real-world challenges, creative problem-solving, and collaborative exploration—just like real STEM professionals.
- SCIENCE– Students begin by exploring life science, physical science, and space science through observation, experimentation, and inquiry. They investigate biological systems, forces and motion, energy, matter, and the universe—learning how scientists ask questions, test ideas, and use evidence to understand the world around them.
- TECHNOLOGY– Students dive into computers, coding, artificial intelligence, and robotics to learn how technology is designed and used. Through hands-on challenges, they explore how software and hardware work together, how AI makes decisions, and how technology impacts fields from medicine to space exploration.
- ENGINEERING– Students apply their science and technology knowledge using the engineering design process. They plan, build, test, and redesign solutions while working with structures, machines, circuits, and mechanical systems—learning how engineers solve problems through creativity and iteration.

Students will transform their engineered invention into a market-ready product by developing a brand, defining their target audience, and creating digital assets such as an app, website, and commercial. Throughout the week, campers learn how to communicate their ideas through marketing, media production, and pitch development, exploring pricing, business strategy, and persuasive storytelling. The experience culminates in a live STEM Shark Tank showcase. - VEXCODE IQ STEM LAB CHALLENGES- Learn Block, Python, and C++ through VEXcode IQ STEM Labs.
VEX IQ COMPETITION MIX & MATCH 2026 Challenge - Teams compete in the Robot Skills Challenge where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible. These matches consist of Driving Skills Matches, which will be entirely driver controlled, and Autonomous Coding Skills Matches, which will be autonomous with limited human interaction. The scoring objects in VEX IQ Robotics Competition Mix & Match are Pins and Beams. The primary objectives of the game are to build Stacks out of Pins and Beams, and Place Stacks in Goals. Additional Pins are introduced to the Field by Drive Team Members at the Load Zone. Points are awarded based on how many Pins and Beams are Connected, how many colors are included in each Stack, and for Stacks that match the color of the Goal.
Cancellation Policies
The Out-of-Door Academy Summer Program Registration Fee and Cancellation Policy for all camps and courses. There is a one-time, non-refundable registration fee of $25 per camper for the summer of 2026.
Refund Policy and cancellation fees:
- Any cancellations made on or before May 8, 2026 will be subject to a $50 cancellation fee for each weekly camp session.
- There will be no refunds for cancellations made after May 8, 2026.

Complete the online registration form and answer all questions. You may pay by credit card during check out. Please be sure to submit all of the parent information correctly as we use this for our contact record during camp.

Only some of our camps offer Extended Care options for our campers. Please refer to the specific details of each camp to review the details. Please register for Extended Care during your registration process. If you decide at a later date that you will need Extended Care, you may login and register. Drop-in care is not available. You must be pre-registered for each week in order to be eligible. Late fees of $20 for the first quarter hour and $1 for each additional minute will apply to all campers not picked up on time. All late fees will automatically be applied to the encrypted card on file. Refer to the fee schedule for each individual camp.
Only campers registered for some of our full-day camps at our Uihlein and Historic Siesta Key campuses will receive lunch provided by ODA. These include Thunder Sports Camp, Camp Banyan, STEMania, and Theatre Musical Production Camp. Camps that offer lunch will have it noted in their descriptions. Campers do not have access to refrigerators or microwaves. All campers should bring a refillable water bottle for use throughout the day and a healthy snack for each day of camp they attend. Some of our camps may provide occasional special treats based on the activities planned. Our half-day camps do not require campers to bring lunch, however we do recommend children bring a snack and a refillable water bottle. Lunch is not provided at the Lower School on Clark Road this summer.
One week prior to each session, parents will be notified of all camp procedures via an emailed camp newsletter. We have car line drop-off/pick-up locations for each camp, and Extended Care will drop-off and pick-up inside each location. Late fees of $20 for the first quarter hour and $1 for each additional minute apply to all campers not picked up on time.
Be sure to complete all relevant information on our Participant Information and Medical Care Authorization form and discuss any concerns with the school nurse and camp instructor. If a child is injured, first aid will be administered and parents will be notified; 911 will be called in an emergency.
We recommend that campers wear comfortable clothes like shorts, t-shirts, and sneakers. Please label any extra clothing. Any clothing or items not claimed at the end of summer will be donated. Some sports camps may require special gear. Please refer to individual camp descriptions.
Please refer to our cancellation policies for refund details. If your child misses a day, please notify the specific camp teacher/director for your session. Unfortunately, we cannot offer special refunds for any missed days or make up projects your child may miss. Regular attendance is encouraged for all camps.
All campers are expected to be respectful of each other, camp staff, and ODA equipment and facilities. Campers are also expected to follow all rules and guidelines presented for each program. ODA will not issue refunds for a child dismissed from a program because of unacceptable behavior.

Please Note:
As a continued service for parents this year, lunch service will be provided for our full-day camp programs at our Uihlein Campus and our Historic Siesta Key Campus. Lunch will not be provided at our Lower School Campus on Clark Road. These include Thunder Sports Camp, Camp Banyan, ODA Adventure Camp, Hearts of ODA, and full-day option camps for STEMania, Basketball and Soccer camps, and Summer Musical Theatre Production camps. Camps that offer lunch will have it noted in their descriptions. These programs run from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Lunch is included in the price of the camp. Full-day camps at our Lower School Campus on Clark Road do not include lunch.
Lunch options will include either the hot meal choice or a pasta option each day. Pre-made sandwiches and salads will be available as an alternative.
