Financial Assistance
At Out-of-Door, we are committed to ensuring that our school remains financially accessible to qualified students, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
- Our admissions decisions are need-blind, which means that all decisions are made without consideration of a family’s financial need.
- Over $2 million dollars is awarded annually.
- Financial assistance awards range from 5% to 95% of the tuition. All families contribute some portion of the tuition.
- All awards are based on demonstrated need; we do not offer merit based scholarships.
- We do not participate in Family Empowerment, Gardiner, Hope, McKay, or Step-Up scholarship programs.
- December 1, 2025: Returning applicants must file the online Clarity Application. A tax return consent and any additional documents must be uploaded to the Clarity Application.
- January 12, 2026: New applicants must file the online Clarity Application. A tax return consent and any additional documents requested must be uploaded to the Clarity Application.
- January 30, 2026: Notification of Financial Assistance Awards will be sent to returning families as part of the re-enrollment contract.
- February 9, 2026: Returning applicants must accept the Financial Assistance Award by returning the re-enrollment contract.
- New applicants will be notified of Financial Assistance Awards as part of their admissions decisions.
In order to be considered for Financial Assistance, a family must complete an Admissions Application and the prospective student must be accepted to The Out-of-Door Academy. To begin the Financial Assistance application process outlined below, please contact the Director of Financial Assistance & Auxiliary Programs, Ms. Monica Baldwin, at [email protected].
The Financial Assistance process involves submitting specific financial forms, including:
- Clarity Application
- Federal 1040 Tax Forms
- Business Tax Returns
- W2s and 1099s
- Supplementary Financial Assistance Form (SFAF)
Frequently Asked Questions
- Monthly payment plans
- Need-based financial assistance
- Low interest loans via Tuition Solution
- Support from grandparents or other family members
We realize that every family has a unique financial situation. Therefore, income alone is not a sufficient indicator to determine financial assistance eligibility. If you would like to discuss the possibility of qualifying for assistance prior to completing the application or admissions process, please contact Monica Baldwin at 941-554-3441.
The Financial Assistance Committee considers it reasonable to expect both parents to be employed if the family is requesting the school to assist with tuition costs. In the interest of equity, if one parent elects to stay at home and not seek employment, the Committee will impute a basic income of $25,500 for the non-working parent. Consideration will be given to families with preschool children or other extraordinary circumstances that preclude a parent from working.
The Out-of-Door Academy requires that both biological/adoptive parents, as well as remarried couples, contribute to the cost of education according to their ability. If divorced or separated, each biological/adoptive parent who shares legal custody must complete a Clarity Application. If one or both biological/adoptive parents have remarried, the step parents’ financial information must be included on the Clarity Application.
If you feel that you have omitted or not appropriately clarified specific financial information, you can appeal in writing for reconsideration. When concerned about your ability to afford Out-of-Door, continued conversation with the Financial Assistance Office often results in creative financial solutions that may or may not include additional financial assistance.
With the initial award, our Financial Assistance Committee attempts to meet as much demonstrated need as possible within our budgetary constraints. Therefore, families will not be notified of any increases to an award as a result of an appeal until mid-summer. This timeframe allows a sufficient interval for the Committee to review existing resources and prioritize requests.
