ODA Students Selected for All-State Orchestra

Orchestra Director Nicole Young, Dr. Linda Vasilaki, eighth grade violinist Natalie Carrión, and senior violist Christian Ramos attended the 75th anniversary of the Florida Music Educators Association Conference “Artistry, Teaching and Performing” in Tampa, Florida January 9-12. These two talented students were selected to represent Out-of-Door in the Middle School and High School All-State Orchestra Programs.
Both students worked with renowned conductors Andrea Meyers and Dr. Laura Joella in an intense two days of rehearsals prior to the performance. While the students were busy rehearsing, Ms. Young and Dr. Vasilaki attended rehearsals by master directors and participated in workshops focused on music and the brain, creativity, composition, and pedagogical technique.

The event culminated Saturday evening with fabulous concerts from both performing orchestras. Highlights included Themes from Vivaldi’s "Gloria", Antonio Vivaldi and Bacchanale from "Samson et Dalila," Op. 47, Camille Saint-Saens.
