Core Values on Stage for Grandfriends Day 2019

Out-of-Door’s traditional Grandfriends Day was held on the Historic Siesta Key Campus on February 8, 2019. The annual event is an opportunity for students to invite their grandparents or special friends to visit ODA to experience the musical and theatrical talents of our students, participate in campus activities, and spend time together sharing what they are learning in classrooms.
To open the event, Dr. Vasilaki, Mr. Stiles, and Mrs. Gulácsy’s Music Immersion students filled the Dining Hall with their jubilant music and soaring voices during a morning concert. Each of their groups performed several impressive pieces, inspiring rousing applause from the appreciative audience.

Following the concert, the 2018-19 school year’s theme, “Core Values Unleashed” was the subject of an unforgettable play put on by the pre-K and kindergarten classes in the Kozel Family Amphitheater. The audience was entertained throughout the adorable performance as ODA’s youngest students took to the stage to share what they know about our five Core Values of Respect, Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Responsibility.

The attendees and students then moved to the Dart Family Pavilion for the annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Grade levels had a great time taking turns jumping to the music to raise funds for the American Heart Association. Coach Young then joined the pre-K, kindergarten, and fifth graders for a special Lollipop Dance, his 33rd time leading the dance at ODA. Head of Lower School Tanna Horner commended the students on their fundraising efforts. She announced proudly that the Lower School students had raised an impressive amount for Jump Rope for Heart and the American Heart Association.

After Jump Rope for Heart, guests were invited into the classrooms to see what students are currently learning. To add even more fun to the morning, there were photo booths complete with props spread around the campus for Grandfriends and their students to capture keepsake photos commemorating the day. Guests had a wonderful time visiting the campus and experiencing a day with their students.
