As the 2026 ODA Argentina Exchange concluded, students and host families gathered for early morning goodbyes before departing for Tampa International Airport. In those final moments, with hugs, shared ODA athletic shirts, and breakfast for the road, it was clear that this program represents far more than travel. It is transformational learning.
Led by visionary educator Padre Adolfo, this four to five week immersion brings Argentine students to the United States for hands on, experiential learning. After beginning together in Las Vegas and San Francisco, students divide into homestays across the country, including Sarasota. They later reunite in Washington, D.C., Orlando, and Miami before returning home with broadened perspectives and meaningful relationships.
During their time at ODA, our visiting students became part of our community. They attended classes, participated in House activities, rode the school bus, created art, learned new languages, and experienced the rhythm of daily school life. Just as importantly, they experienced connection. Faculty welcomed them. Peers embraced them. Host families opened their homes and hearts.
Students shared stories of family dinners, new experiences made possible by their hosts, and friendships formed through simple acts of inclusion. Many expressed how deeply they felt seen, supported, and valued, hallmarks of the ODA experience.
This exchange reflects our mission of preparing students for lives of impact by cultivating excellence, integrity, respect, and service. Our community demonstrated all four. Faculty designed meaningful classroom experiences. Student ambassadors stepped forward in service and leadership. Host families modeled generosity and respect across cultures.
We are grateful to the Argentine families who entrusted us with their children, to Padre Adolfo for his bold educational vision, and especially to our ODA host families whose kindness made this experience possible.
Programs like this remind us that education extends beyond the classroom. When we open our community to the world, we deepen learning for everyone involved.
