Minimester at Out-of-Door offers middle school students a dynamic opportunity to step beyond the classroom and dive into hands-on, real-world learning. Each grade embarks on a unique journey—whether exploring Florida’s natural ecosystems, immersing themselves in global cultures, or engaging with the history and civic life of our nation’s capital. These experiences brought academic subjects to life in powerful, lasting ways.
Our sixth graders began their adventure in the Everglades, where they explored the region’s diverse ecosystems and made meaningful cross-curricular connections in science, social studies, and language arts. Their journey continued in Marathon, where they conducted fieldwork and gathered data to support formal research proposals they will present at the upcoming Capstone Symposium.
Seventh grade students embraced global learning during their visit to Disney’s Epcot. Participating in an interactive photo scavenger hunt, they explored the customs, traditions, and histories of countries from around the world. From admiring architectural details to engaging with cultural exhibits, students deepened their understanding of global communities through active, joyful exploration.
Meanwhile, the eighth grade traveled to Washington, D.C., where their studies came to life against the backdrop of some of the nation’s most iconic landmarks. From the Washington Monument to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, each stop offered moments of reflection and connection to the stories that have shaped American history. The trip included a lively Washington Nationals game—blending learning, camaraderie, and fun.
As the week came to a close, students gained new perspectives, stronger bonds, and a deeper appreciation for the world around them. These experiences are more than just memorable field trips—they are a testament to Out-of-Door’s commitment to experiential education. By connecting academic learning with real-world discovery, minimester continues to empower students to think critically, engage meaningfully, and grow both intellectually and personally. The lessons learned and memories made will continue to shape their journey long after the week has ended.
